Available Programs

Texas has many programs and services that provide support and resources to expecting parents, new parents, and families with young children. These programs aim to help your family succeed and ensure your children have a great start in life. Programs include: 

  • Thriving Texas Families
  • Texas Nurse-Family Partnership
  • Texas Home Visiting

Thriving Texas Families

The Thriving Texas Families program is a statewide support network that: 

  • Promotes healthy pregnancy and childbirth.
  • Promotes childbirth as an alternative to abortion.
  • Increases access to resources that promote family and child development.
  • Encourages family formation.
  • Helps parents establish and implement successful parenting techniques.
  • Increases the number of families who achieve economic self-sufficiency.
  • Provides a local approach and personalized support to pregnant women to promote childbirth in all instances of pregnancy.

What Services are Available? 

Counseling and Mentoring

Counseling and mentoring on pregnancy, education, parenting skills, adoption services, life skills and employment readiness topics.

Care Coordination

Care coordination for prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal services, including connecting participants to health services.

Educational Information

Educational materials and information about pregnancy, parenting and adoption services.

Service Referrals

Referrals to government and social service programs, including child care, transportation, housing, and state and federal benefit programs.

Classes

Classes on life skills, personal finance, parenthood, stress management, job training, job readiness, job placement and getting an education.

Material Assistance

Supplies for infant care and pregnancy, including car seats, cribs, maternity clothes, infant diapers and formula.

Housing Services

Residential care services including shelters, maternity housing and transitional housing to provide a safe home for expecting mothers.

Who is Eligible?

The Thriving Texas Families program is available to any Texas resident who is one or more of the following:

  • A pregnant woman
  • The biological father of an unborn child.
  • The biological parent of a child who is 3 years old or younger.
  • An adoptive parent of a child who is 3 years old or younger.
  • An approved adoptive parent of an unborn child.
  • A former participant who has experienced the loss of a child.
  • A parent or legal guardian of a pregnant minor who is receiving services through the program.
  • The parent, legal guardian or adult caregiver of a child who is 3 years old or younger.
  • A parent who experienced a miscarriage or loss of a child within 90 days of beginning participation in the program.

The Thriving Texas Families program is a support network that promotes healthy pregnancy, childbirth, parenting and more.

Texas Nurse-Family Partnership

Texas Nurse-Family Partnership is a free, voluntary program that connects nurses with first-time mothers to improve prenatal care and provide one-on-one child development education and counseling.

Families can start a partnership with the program as early as the mother’s 28th week of pregnancy and can receive support until their child reaches 2 years old.

What Services are Available?

Texas Nurse-Family Partnership provides nurse home visiting services to help new families feel confident and secure as they start their new chapter.

Who is Eligible?

First-time mothers and their families who have low incomes are eligible from the mother’s 28th week of pregnancy to their child’s 2nd birthday.

Texas Home Visiting

Texas Home Visiting is a free, voluntary program where early childhood and health professionals regularly visit the homes of pregnant women and families with children 5 years old or younger. 

Using evidence-based models, the program supports positive child health and development outcomes, increases family self-sufficiency, and creates communities where children and families can thrive.

What Services Are Available?

Texas Home Visiting provides free, voluntary in-home visits for pregnant women and families with young children.

Who is Eligible?

Expecting parents, caregivers or primary caregivers of a child 5 years old or younger are eligible for Texas Home Visiting services. Services are for people who have an ongoing relationship with and provide physical care for the child.

Families must reside in the specified service delivery area county or unified service area, and show priority traits to be eligible.
